World War Buildings Strategy Guide

Buildings Overview
In World War, there are 3 categories of buildings that I refer to as:
  • Income Buildings: Buildings that provide recurring income that is added to your Money Flow.
  • Defense Buildings: Buildings that provide additional defense for your base when you are attacked.
  • Energy Buildings: Buildings that increase the amount of energy that you recharge each cycle.
It is important to understand these distinctions because each of these categories serves a specific purpose.

Income Buildings
Income buildings can be distinguished by the fact that they provide a preset amount of Income per cycle. Purchasing these buildings adds to your money flow and allows you to cover upkeep costs and generate money for other purchases.

Return on Investment (ROI)
The key to maximizing your income from income buildings is understanding the concept of ROI. If you view income buildings as an investment of your money, then the ROI on that investment is equal to the income provided by that building divided by its current cost. This number is commonly expressed as a percentage and indicates the rate of return for that particular building. When choosing which building to buy, you should always choose the one that provides the highest available ROI in order to maximize your investment and income. It may be tempting to always buy the building that provides the highest income but, financially, this will hurt your money flow in the long run.

The cost of each type of income building increases by 10% with each purchase, decreasing its ROI.

Strategic Recommendations
World War only offers 7 types of Income Buildings with a starting ROI of 5.56% to 0.7%. There is also a large level gap between the Power Plant (Level 12) and Oil Rig (Level 25). Although the starting ROI percentages are relatively high, they will drop quickly as there are so few building types available.

Also, with the extra cost of replacing casualties and the need to buy defense buildings in addition to units, it is very important that you build a large money flow as quickly as possible. As always, minimize your upkeep costs in order to generate as much money as possible to reinvest in additional buildings.

I recommend a target ROI of 0.7% or lower for currently available income buildings before unlocking higher level buildings.

Camping
Of course this depends upon each player's strategy and some players take this to the extreme by "camping" at certain levels and continuing to build their income stream despite the rapidly declining ROI %. The objective is to build as large an income stream as possible so that the player is easily able to acquire and support higher level units.

To effectively utilize this strategy, it is important to drastically slow down your leveling by not attacking other players or completing missions. Also, you should take advantage of Defense Buildings as much as possible.

TIP: Camp out before level 25. Once the Oil Rig becomes available, players are much stronger and your upkeep costs will likely increase.

Defense Buildings
There are 5 types of Defense Buildings available in World War that provide increasing amounts of defensive points. These buildings are used to defend your base when you are attacked by another player. They are not used when you are attacking but have the benefit of requiring zero upkeep.

I consider them the equivalent of extra units that are used in addition to your regular units when defending. The defense points from these buildings is added to your total defense points when calculating fight results and can have a significant impact if you acquire a large number of buildings.

There is no limit to the number of Defense Buildings that you can acquire but, like Income Buildings, the cost of each type of Defense Building increases by 10% with each additional purchase.

Strategic Recommendations
It is useful to apply the concept of ROI to defense buildings in order to optimize their purchases. By substituting defense for income, the same buying strategy as income buildings applies. There is no difference between the type of defense building in terms of effectiveness against unit categories.

Energy Buildings
Energy buildings are a category of buildings that increase the amount of energy you regenerate each cycle. There are 3 types available and you are limited to 1 of each type. They are useful if you want to increase the frequency that you can complete missions.

Example: I own all 3 buildings. Every cycle (either 4 minutes or 5 minutes), I will recharge 16 energy instead of 10 energy.

Recommendation: If you can afford it, buy 1 of each as there are no upkeep costs.
